The waste-to-energy facilty is owned and operated by the Wheelabrator Concord Company and went into operation in 1989. Since that time the Facility has processed over 2.6 milliion tons of municipal solid waste from the Co-operative communities. The facility is located in the Penaccok Village area of the City of Concord, NH.
The facilty consists of two mass-burnning furnace/boiler processing trains designed to process 250+ tons per day of municipal solid waste each, and produce high pressure steam for the generation of electrical power. The Facility operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, with sufficient redundancy to permit continuous processing of waste during periods of maintenance and overhaul. The air pollution equipment is the most up-to-date equipment available which assure compliance with EPA and State regulations. The annual throughput of the Facility is approximately 180,000 tonsper year.
The Facility consists of an enclosed tipping floor and waste receivingand storage pit, two handling cranes, refuse boilers and auxiliary equipment, ash handling equipment, water treatment equipment, turbine generator, pollution control equipment, stack,cooling tower, electrical substation and other equipment to provide a completely operational steam-electric power plant. The Facility also includes administrative offices, a vehicle weigh station and employee facilities
